Curious about oil painting? This is a one-day course to introduce you to the basics of oil painting. Oil painting can be intimidating and seem difficult to do at home, but it actually very doable! Whether you are a curious absolute beginner or someone who wants to get back into oil painting, this day course will help you get up and running. We will cover basics as palette set-up, types of brushes, mediums, painting surfaces, paints and various ways of beginning a painting. You will practise colour mixing and brushwork and take inspiration from a wide variety of amazing paintings from art history. In the afternoon you will get the chance to make a small painting from observation. At the end of the day, you will take away a list of materials and notes, your painting, and basic skills to get going with oil paints.
Class is maximum 9 students, therefore a great deal of individual attention is given. It takes place in a private studio in Stoke Newington, just south of Clissold Park (access up two flights of stairs). We will break for an hour for lunch from 12:30-1:30. Tea and biscuits provided.
Marcia Teusink is a practising artist, educator and organiser of Draw London Art Workshops. There's more about her on our about page.

This is a special opportunity to attend a two-day intensive monotype workshop with artist Fiona Fouhy here in London. Learning and working with Fiona for two days straight will give you the time and space to practice and experiment with the range of exciting processes you will be introduced to.
Monotype prints are unique prints which are created through a process of oily inks being pressed and transferred from a flat surface onto paper. Gestural and textural marks can be achieved through the use of a wide variety of tools which can either remove or apply the ink to your plate. This playful process is very flexible and very generative for painters, printmakers and image makers of any kind. The workshop will allow you to experiment with both black and coloured inks, using Fiona’s portable presses. By the end of the weekend you will have created a varied collection of original prints.
The class is limited to 6 students, therefore a great deal of individual attention is given. The class takes place in a bright and welcoming studio in Stoke Newington, just south of Clissold Park on a residential street (access up two flights of stairs). We will break for an hour for lunch from 1:00-2:00pm. Tea and biscuits provided!
Street parking is free on Sundays (apart from Arsenal match days). You can purchase parking passes from the host for £5 day on Saturdays (or match days).
