I offer several ongoing oil painting courses for committed participants. Most people who join the extended courses first attend a 6-week Introduction to Oil Painting Course, which provides some of the fundamentals of painting and is also a chance to get to know the the studio and what the courses are like. The next 6-week Intro Course will take place in September 2022 (info below).

6-week Introduction to Oil Painting Course
Saturday mornings
September 10 - October 15
10:00am-1:00pm
registration will be announced shortly
Fees: £200 includes tuition and all materials except for a basic oil painting brush set, which participants must bring. (I will send a link with suggestions or you can purchase a set from me for approx £20; the brushes must be long-handled with hog bristles.)
This course is for beginners and those with some painting experience who would like to get started again. Each week's lesson builds upon the previous one, so that by the end you have a good idea of how to 'build' a painitng. Topics include using lights and darks to create the illusion of form and also atmosphere, color mixing and color relationships, and how to create texture and detail. You'll try a few different ways of starting a painting and you'll get to know the paletter lay out and linseed oil medium. Most weeks will involve a series offshore and focused exercises. but you will also have the chance to paint a painting over two weeks. We work from a variety of subject matter and sources of inspiration, looking at a great deal of paintings from art history (up to the present) each week.
Class is limited to 9 participants maxiumum, so you will receive a great deal of individual attention. After six weeks you'll have a solid foundation in oils and be ready to explore more!
The studio is located in a private residence just south of Clissold Park, and it is reache dup two flights of stairs. Tea and biscuits are provided!
